Chris Brown talks ghostwriting in Hip Hop & R&B

Chris Brown says it’s understandable for singers to use ghostwriters but not for rappers

After dropping his new album Breezy last week, Chris Brown sat for an extensive chat on Drink Champs. One of the several topics Chris talked about was ghostwriting in Hip Hop and R&B. The crooner explained that it’s cool for singers to use ghostwriters but not for rappers.

“It depends on the artist,” Breezy said. “In the Hip Hop standpoint, if you stand on your business, you rapping and you doing your shit, we don’t wanna hear about somebody else’s robbery. So we not gonna respect it from a Hip Hop culture to be like, ‘Man that’s hard that n-gga wrote it for him.’ Like what’re we listening to you for then? We should be listening to this n-gga.”

He added, “I always said it like this right cause I never discredit writers who write on my album. I got hella co-writers and we do certain shit, but it’s just like this. They can write it, who gon’ sing it like me? So at the end of the day you might write some beautiful shit that gets overlooked cause it don’t sound good.”

Chris Brown says ‘’There is no competing’’ with MJ

Chris Brown has spent the one and half decade he’s been in the game to establish himself as one of the finest R&B singers in history. In recent memory, there has been this debate whether the Indigo singer is better than iconic Pop singer Michael Jackson.

This week, Chris sat for an interview at Big Boy’s Neighborhood where he disproved the idea that he can even compete with the great MJ. “You getting a lot of people, man – and you’ve always given it to Michael Jackson – but now you’re getting people where they say, man, ‘Chris is better than,’” the host started before inquiring the “Wheels Fall Off” singer’s thoughts on the debate.

“That’s cap!” Chris answered. “Because I don’t consider myself better than Michael Jackson, and you already know when it comes to dancing and things of that nature… If I’m not better than Michael, how can Chris Brown be better than Michael?” he kidded.

“My personal take on it is that I wouldn’t be breathing or be able to sing a song if that man didn’t exist,” Brown added. “I don’t know if they look at it as a [Michael] Jordan and Kobe [Bryant] thing, but I can’t even look at it. He’s lightyears ahead.” He concluded, “There is no competing with him!”

Scott Storch knew he’d make Chris Brown a superstar with “Run It”

Chris Brown‘s “Run It” turned 15 years old on June 30th. The Scott Storch-produced single is Chris Brown’s introduction to the music industry. It’s also the song that Scott Storch knew he’d make Chris Brown a superstar with.

In an interview with HipHopDX, Storch described what it was like to make music for a almost-16-year-old Chris Brown.

““At that moment in my life, I was literally — and I still consider myself to be on fire, but I was on fire at that moment in my life,” Storch told HipHopDX in an interview. “And he came in, he was just about to turn 16. And I didn’t know how to do anything except make you a hit record. Like, that’s the only thing I could do. I was in there every day, every minute, every hour in the studio. And it was me, Sean Garrett, and we literally, immediately, made something so effortlessly. And I had told him right before we started making it, I was like, ‘I’m about to make you a number one song and you’ll to be a superstar.’”

The single featured Juelz Santana as well. The music climate was completely different in 2005. Scott Storch production credits were at an all-time high. 2005, Storch also gave us 50 Cent’s “Candy Shop” single that year.

“I was serious. I was serious. We made it. He cut it. He became a number one smash. You know what I mean? I was with Chris the other night, it’s amazing. We’re still really good friends,” Storch mentioned.
