Drake Sues Universal Music Group Over Defamation, UMG Responds Forcefully

UMG Denies Claims and Defends Actions in Drake’s Legal Action Against Label

Drake has filed a defamation lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG) after the release of Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us.” Per HipHopDX, Drake accuses UMG in his legal complaint of knowing the song’s allegations were false but choosing to release and promote the track anyway, prioritizing “corporate greed” over artist safety. Drake claims the song damaged his reputation and led to real-life violence, citing a shooting at his home and multiple trespassing incidents. He also alleges that UMG artificially boosted the song’s popularity using bots and payola, attempting to weaken his brand for financial gain.

In response, UMG denied the claims, calling them “untrue” and “illogical,” defending their actions in distributing the track and rejecting any allegations of defamation. The company emphasized its long-standing support of Drake and criticized his use of the legal system to target creative expression. Drake has stated that his lawsuit is not directed at Kendrick Lamar but at UMG for publishing and promoting the song’s false and harmful allegations. The legal battle continues, with a separate case against UMG and iHeartMedia in Texas scheduled for a court hearing on January 28.

‘I’m a champ, I lost many things, I learn from them and move on’ — Meek Mill on Drake’s Legal Feud

Meek Mill has shared his thoughts on Drake’s recent defamation lawsuit against Universal Music Group, reflecting on his own infamous 2015 beef with the rapper. The legal action, which stems from Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us,” has drawn parallels to the feud between Meek and Drizzy, which ignited when Meek accused the Toronto artist of using ghostwriters.

In a post responding to a comment from battle rapper Arsonal Da Rebel, Meek did not address Drake’s lawsuit directly but offered insight into his experience following their highly publicized rivalry. Meek recalled how his label at the time had advised against releasing new music, but he defied them by dropping his DC4 mixtape, which sold 90,000 copies in its first week. Despite facing challenges with playlist placements, Meek was determined to push through, recognizing the importance of influence in the music industry.

“I’m a champ. I lost many things, I learn from them and move on,” Meek wrote, also sharing his aspirations for 2025. “I’m going to make $100M off rap because I was in a system so long. It’s time to break that jawn.”

Kai Cenat Reacts to Being Named in Drake’s Defamation Lawsuit

Kai Initially Mistakes Lawsuit for Personal Legal Trouble, Clarifies His Involvement

Kai Cenat was left surprised and confused after discovering his name in Drake’s recent defamation lawsuit against his longtime record label, Universal Music Group (UMG). The lawsuit, which was filed over the copyright removal of Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us,” alleges that UMG allowed the song’s defamatory content to spread across platforms like YouTube and Twitch.

During a live Twitch stream, Cenat read through the lawsuit and initially thought he was being sued by Drake. “Wait, why am I in this shit?! Wait, hold on! I’m getting sued?!” he exclaimed in disbelief. His confusion stemmed from his previous interactions with Drake, including a message from the artist in May alerting him to the release of his diss song, “Family Matters.”

However, after reading further, Cenat realized he wasn’t personally being sued. “Oh, I’m good! I’m alright!” he reassured his viewers. “So he’s just using us as examples of spreading misinformation type shit?”

Cenat also denied rumors that he and other streamers were paid by UMG to react to “Not Like Us,” stressing that his reactions were organic and monetized. The lawsuit, which accuses UMG of damaging Drake’s reputation and inciting real-life violence, highlights the legal consequences of the song’s content being shared widely.

Ak Apologizes for Inflammatory Remarks on Infidelity Rumors

Akademiks has quickly backpedaled on his controversial statement about Drake allegedly helping LeBron James cheat on his wife. The media personality had sparked outrage after spreading unverified rumors on his Rumble channel, where he claimed that Drake used to “supply” women for LeBron during his visits to Toronto.

During a follow-up conversation with Kai Cenat on his Twitch stream, Akademiks apologized and retracted his previous remarks. “I fuck with Bron. I kinda feel bad. I went back online and was like, ‘Yo, I’m seeing so many people mad at me. If y’all wanna go with everything I said was cap, I’ll go with that,’” he said, expressing regret for his words.

He further added, “We love LeBron. That’s one of our national icons, so we gotta hold down his legacy. Everything I said was cap, this shit is not real.”

Despite the apology, Akademiks still claimed that Drake, along with others, had already “half told on” LeBron regarding his alleged infidelity, although no concrete evidence was provided for these assertions.

The original claims, made just days before, had stirred major backlash as Akademiks insinuated that LeBron’s visits to Canada involved infidelity facilitated by Drake.

Drake has kept a low profile after his highly public feud with Kendrick Lamar; however, it seems he might be preparing for quite a year. Recently he posted a freestyle which has since been taken down, suggesting new music could be on the horizon.

While having a Christmas giveaway stream with Adin Ross, Drake spilled his beans for 2025, saying, “It’s actually one of those projects I’m most proud of in my life.” PARTYNEXTDOOR and Me are working on an album together. “I always wanted to create an entire album that will sound like ours, a Toronto sound, R&B.”

Kendrick Lamar vs. Drake Feud Sparks WWE Raw Drama in Los Angeles

K-Dot’s feud with Drizzy was mentioned on WWE Raw by Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods in his hometown.

Kendrick Lamar’s feud with Drake had crawled its way into the WWE Raw’s first Netflix episode with The New Day’s Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods taking some final shots at the Compton rapper in his hometown.

During the villainous interview segment, Woods made fire by saying, “Think about it: for the last six months, y’all have been elevating this trash rapper Kendrick Lamar,” which drew loud boo. Kingston added, “Yeah, boo him! We think he sucks, too. Bye! So you not mad at us- you’re mad at Kendrick Lamar because Drake won the beef. ” and helped raise the jeers further from the audience in Los Angeles.

These back-and-forth lighthearted jabs made another tie-up during the ongoing Drake-Kendrick rivalry between hip-hop and wrestling. Last year, great wrestling star Shawn Michaels invited both rap superstars to settle their beef in what Michaels tweeted: “A little Sweet Chin Music goes a long way. @ kendricklamar, you and @Drake are formally invited to #WWENXT to settle this thing.”

Michaels’ challenge was a reference to Kendrick’s infamous diss track “Not Like Us,” where Kendrick dropped Michaels’ sweet signature move: “Sweet Chin Music and I won’t pass the aux, aye.”

This moment in the WWE keeps the relevant excitement alive among the fans across such different areas as shifting venues of battle between Drake and Kendrick.

  • Vybz Kartel Declares Drake a ‘Better and Bigger Artist’ Than Kendrick Lamar

Vybz Kartel Declares Drake a ‘Better and Bigger Artist’ Than Kendrick Lamar

Kartel isn’t a big Kendrick fan

Dancehall legend Vybz Kartel himself takes sides in the long-running debate between Kendrick Lamar and Drake, and naturally, he sided with the Canadian superstar.

In an interview with Billboard, Kartel discussed Kendrick by saying, “I’m not a fan of Kendrick. I don’t even listen to Kendrick, so I wouldn’t know. What does he rap? No disrespect to the dude, but I hear him, I don’t listen to him.” However, on the other hand, he described Drake as one who made a direct connection with the Jamaican culture, labeling him “a better and bigger artist.”

In line with that, he commented to Complex in December stating: “LYRICALLY, Kendrick is good, but to me, on a global scale, Drake gets the point across.”

In addition, this past summer, Drake, who has been a fan of Kartel for a long time, rejoiced at the news of the dancehall great’s release from prison. Kartel was freed on July 31 after the Jamaican Court of Appeals confirmed the overturning of the murder conviction that robbed him of his freedom for 13 years.

With a selfie wearing a Kartel-emblazoned T-shirt, the 6 God celebrated by saying, “BOSS FREE UP NOW! Adidjaaaaaaa,” Adidja being the real name of Kartel, Adidja Palmer, who spoke of the moment.

Now that Kartel endorsed him, it shows how far Drake’s influence travels into the realm of music.

Drake Denies Allegations of Sending DMs to Stylist Chris Blake Griffith

Drake denied allegations that he sent an Instagram DM to Chris Blake Griffith about his dispute with UMG

Drake has denied allegations that he sent an Instagram direct message to celebrity stylist Chris Blake Griffith regarding his dispute with Universal Music Group (UMG).

On Tuesday (January 7), Griffith posted apparent messages in which Drake supposedly explained why he was pursuing legal action against the label he had been associated with during his career. The so-called messages likened the rapper’s grievance against UMG to “Nike financing a campaign about LeBron cheating on his wife,” within which he told of the reason for suing the long-standing label.

The messages also talked of Drake’s plans to bring the record label to account for past errors: “Everybody before me that tried the label was too eccentric… I’m going to change that and create a much safer place within the building for every artist moving forward.”

However, the screenshots also contained a part about Griffith’s claim involving NFL player Stefon Diggs, to which the alleged Drake’s response read: “You asking me to post a tape about you ratting on people g.”

Drake swiftly discredited through Akademiks, “This is a fake DM,” tweeted Akademiks. “Drake called buddy a Rat… he got mad and made up some fake DM to try to make the blogs and go viral. End of story.”

So far, Griffith has produced no more evidence to support his claims.
