Noreaga recieved valuable advice from Skateboard P
N.O.R.E had a recent sit-down with Ludacris where he recalled a piece of advice Pharrel gave him back in the day. The two were discussing the latter’s Neptunes-produced “Southern Hospitality,” when the former remembered Skateboard P tell him to “embrace his character,” which he did not understand at first.
“One of my biggest gripes with Pharrell was, when I first got in the studio with him, he was like, ‘You have to embrace your character [like] how Busta embraces his character,’” he explained. “And I didn’t understand ’cause I’m like, ‘I’m not a character; I’m just being who I am.’”
He added, “And Pharrell’s like, ‘It doesn’t matter who you think you are; it’s how the people perceive you.’ I never embraced my character. And from the moment I seen you from, ‘W-w-w-what’s your fantasy?’ I was like, ‘This guy’s embracing his character. He’s doing exactly what Pharrell [told me].’”
Ludacris praises The Neptunes for giving him a hit in the final moments of recording his album
Ludacris reveals that he never thought his smash hit “Southern Hospitality” would blow up. During a recent discussion on All The Smoke Podcast, Luda recalled that when he first heard the beat from The Neptunes of what would become the second single off his 2000 album, Back For The First Time, he had no idea how big it would become.
“If anybody can give you a hit at the last minute, it’s Pharrell and Chad [Hugo] and The Neptunes,” the rapper said. “He [Pharrell] throws on this beat, and I’m vibing to it, I’m thinking it’s cool. I’m not like thinking, ‘This is a hit.’”
He added, “With ‘Southern Hospitality,’ I did not know that it was the hit that it became.”
Ludacris has seen his acting career boom over the past couple of years, but he is still seen frequently sharing freestyles on Instagram. During a recent chit-chat on The Tamron Hall Show, the rapper was asked why he still hops on the social platform to spit a few bars.
“When I was young I feel some of my favorite rappers once they get to a certain point, you wish like they were kinda still hungry,” he began. “You feel like they don’t necessarily have it like they used to. I never wanted to be that. So it’s extremely important for me to prove [to] people [that] even though I’m doing all these other stuff, make no mistake, I still got it and I’m still hungry like the first time, 100%.”
