DJ Envy Confirms Cam’ron’s Story About Jim Jones and Maino Confrontation

Envy adds more details about the infamous club standoff

DJ Envy has confirmed Cam’ron’s story about a confrontation between Jim Jones and Maino, adding some details to the wild tale. In an explosive rant earlier this week, Killa Cam revealed that Jim once confronted Maino for dissing him early in his career. According to Cam, Jim went to see Maino and told him, “Yo, wassup with all that saying my name?” Maino, who wasn’t having it, responded, “Who the fk you talking to?! Oh, you think I’m one of them n****s? You out your muthafkin’ mind!” From there, their relationship evolved, eventually becoming part of the Lobby Boyz duo.

Speaking on The Breakfast Club, DJ Envy verified the story and revealed additional details from the night of the confrontation. Envy recalled that Maino, known for his bad-boy image at the time, was with three of his associates in the club, while Jim Jones arrived with about 15 people. When Jim walked down the stairs, Maino immediately told his crew, “Yo, everybody tuck your chains in,” signaling a tense situation.

Envy described how Jim walked over to Maino and his crew, but the entire club reportedly scattered when he pulled a move like he was reaching for a gun. “Jim walked over, with all the dudes in front of Maino, and Maino went in his jacket like he had a gun. And when he fake pulled out like he had a gun, the club scattered. Everybody cleared out.”

Envy was initially surprised, thinking Maino had somehow managed to sneak in a weapon despite the club’s metal detectors. However, Maino later admitted, “I lied. I was just bluffing.”

This incident is part of the ongoing drama between Jim Jones and Cam’ron, with Jones recently teasing a fiery response to Cam’s remarks. He shared a snippet of a diss track where he warns, “N****s play with your name, then you remind them who you are.”

Maino Offers His Side of the Story on His Early Feud with Jim Jones

Maino has addressed Cam’ron’s retelling of a past confrontation between him and Jim Jones, revealing that the incident wasn’t quite as dramatic as Killa Cam described. Appearing on Way Up with Angela Yee, the Brooklyn rapper clarified that their issues stemmed from Maino’s 2006 hit “Rumors,” where he mentioned Cam’ron but not Jim Jones. According to Maino, Jones took offense to this, and the two would have “face fights” whenever they saw each other, but no physical altercation occurred.

Maino recounted their encounter in Atlanta, noting, “We had a conversation… nothing spectacular, nobody swung. Once we started talking and realized that we had things in common, we were cool from then on.” He added that their interaction was much more cordial than Cam’ron’s version, though he acknowledged that tension needed to be addressed at the time.

Cam’ron, in his recent interview, had described how Jones allegedly confronted Maino about the diss and how things escalated into a more heated exchange. DJ Envy also chimed in with a recollection of the night, claiming Maino had fake-pulled a gun on Jones, causing chaos in the club. However, Maino’s account paints a more peaceful resolution, eventually leading to the two becoming “way cooler” than before.

He added that the project is almost done.

“I’m gonna tell you some secretive shit that I’ve never talked about,” Maino said. “It’s actually an album that’s I’ll say 85 percent done. Me, Jim, Fabolous and Dave East. Fit Lit– it’s us together because we be working out. That’s our little Fit Lit Club. We got some heat.”
