In a 2018 interview with Rap Radar (B. Dot and Elliot Wilson), Nipsey Hussle revealed that is is Lauren London’s voice saying “Victory Lap” throughout Victory Lap’sduration.
Lauren London, in her own regard, is a multi-hyphen star and mother of Nipsey’s son, Kross.
“That’s her saying ‘victory lap. And all throughout the album, in between the songs, there’s a woman’s voice — that’s Lauren.”
Update: 2/16/2021
While recording her takes for the late rapper’s final album during his lifetime, Lauren revealed that she had Kross on her hip, while in the booth.
“If they’d made a movie about my life it would be a classic” – Nipsey Hussle
Ava DuVernay’s When They See Us‘ ending credits Nipsey Hussle‘s song, “Picture Me Rollin,” a track featured on the late Nipsey’s Slauson Boy 2 project. Ava has steadily been working, as she’s rolling out her new series on the OWN Network, Cherish the Day.
There’s been a bidding war on hand for Nipsey Hussle’s feature documentary, under his Marathon Films umbrella. While it’s been prematurely noted that Netflix will secure the documentary, Marathon Clothing has confirmed that they are still in negotiation with Netflix for the Ava DuVernay, co-produced project, which will also be with her ARRAY company.
“This documentary is very important to the family and will not be fasted tracked by monetary gain and/or commercial interest,” Marathon Clothing says in a post on Instagram.
After releasing his debut album Victory Lap, the late Nipsey Hussle released his Roddy-Ricch-assisted, Hit-boy-produced track, “Racks In The Middle.”
Today, January 26, 2020, Nipsey Hussle, Roddy Ricch and Hit-Boy take home the Grammy for Best Rap Performance for “Racks In The Middle.”
Nipsey Hussle’s grandmother had this to say on the win: “I wanted to thank all of you for showing all the love that I have felt for him all of his life and will always live in my heart.”
Winning Best Rap Performance, it’s Nipsey’s first Grammy win, which arrives posthumously.
It’s almost been a year since we lost the late Nipsey Hussle. Despite losing him in the physical, his values continue to be the centerpiece for many tables.
On January 26, 2020 (Sunday), the 2020 Grammys will air. During the awards, Nipsey Hussle will receive a tribute by Roddy Ricch, DJ Khaled, John Legend, Meek Mill, Kirk Franklin and YG.
In the fall of 2013, Nipsey Hussle released his mixtape, Crenshaw, hosted by DJ Drama. The late Ermias Asghedom sold physical copies of the mixtape for $100 apiece. Jay Z even purchased 100 copies of Crenshaw. Selling 1000 copies, Nip had bigger plans. This plan came to fruition the following year.
Nipsey Hussleś Mailbox Moneymixtape released on December 31, 2014. Priced at $1,000 per copy, the industry thought he was crazy, but Nipsey knew his ability and didn’t fold on his ambition.
“I knew the next to do was to drop music and I had a ton of ideas and I had a ton of things to talk about,” Nipsey said in an interview with Rap Radar. “So Mail Box Money was that statement after Crenshaw. And I’m proud of that.”
And people were proud to get behind Nip’s #Proud2Pay campaign; the support led to new heights.
Mail Box Money featured Buddy, Rick Ross, Dom Kennedy, J. Stone, Trae tha Truth and more.
In a 2014 interview with XXL, Nipsey had this to say on why he chose to sell Mail Box Money copies for $1,000 each:
“It’s some things that come with the private pay package. We’ve been building this Marathon store in L.A. at a secret location. It’s basically going to be the home base of our brand (Crenshaw clothing line and these Proud 2 Pay products). They’re going to live and exist at the store. So if you buy Mailbox Money you’ll get a product that I haven’t announced yet, access to the secret store that we’re getting ready to have the grand opening for and you get to hear Victory Lap exclusively with me in this place that we built. It’s an experience. We can’t fit more than a 100 people in the store. We just wanted to do something different this time.“
Nipsey’s quality of music has been pushed, sonically, to have album-quality outcomes, but once his final body of work Victory Lap released in early 2018, there was a clear distinction of project, mixtape and album. There’s not a day that has gone by since Nip’s tragic passing where you can’t find him on your social media. One thing is for certain: he did things his way. All money in, no money out. With each release, Nipsey left a blueprint that led him to Victory Lap. You could say it was the law of attraction.

On October 8, 2013, the late Nipsey Hussle released his mixtape Crenshaw, which was priced at $100 for a physical copy and free to just listen and download online. Nipsey only printed 1,000 limited copies with a campaign called “Proud to Pay,” which was a campaign for real fans to support his music.
Nipsey Hussle and his team sold the Crenshaw physical CD’s for $100 a copy at a pop-up shop in Los Angeles. The $100 mixtape included an autograph and a free ticket to his show.
After hearing about the campaign, Jay-Z reached out to Nipsey Hussle and purchased 100 copies of his mixtape Crenshaw, coming to a total price tag of $10,000.
“I got a DM on Twitter from a respected hip-hop journalist and he was just like, ‘Hov respects the move, salute,’ Nipsey Hussle told MTV in 2013. “A little while later, I got an email that came through my team that was like, ‘Roc Nation, on behalf of Jay Z wants to buy 100 units. Who do we pay? When can we get the shipment out?’”
Jay-Z posted the shipment on his blog with the title “#NewRules” and Nipsey Hussle posted a screenshot of the wire transaction between him and Jay-Z on Instagram.
Nipsey’s Crenshaw mixtape featured Rick Ross, Dom Kennedy, James Fauntleroy, and Slim Thug, Nipsey Hussle sold all 1,000 of his Crenshaw CD’s making a total of $100,000. Rest in Peace to Nipsey Hussle, A true hustler.
The Marathon Continues. Following the tragic death of rapper and entrepreneur, Nipsey Hussle, Puma releases what would have been the first official clothing collection in partnership with Hussle’s brand, The Marathon Clothing. Nipsey announced his partnership with Puma in mid-January of 2018 during an interview on LA’s Power 106.
The collection is authentic to Nipsey Hussle’s style and essence. The clothing is even tailored to Nipsey’s actual body measurements. The clothing line will feature tracksuits, graphic T-shirts, and two colorways of the classic Puma sneakers.
What’s even more impressive is that Puma has agreed to send 100% of the proceeds directly to the Neighborhood ‘Nip’ Foundation, founded by the late California rapper’s family. This Foundation provides opportunities for young creatives in music.
The clothing line will be available today, September 5th, on Puma.com at 10 AM EST. Check out some pieces below.
