    Word on the street this week is that Playboi Carti and NBA Youngboy are working on a joint album. On Monday (June 12), Carti was back on Instagram posting a photo of Youngboy rocking an upside-down cross chain, a symbol associated with Carti’s brand.

    Celebrity jeweler Wafi Lalani took to his company’s Jewelry Unlimited Instagram page to share more details about the chain, claiming that Carti gifted it to Youngboy for their upcoming collab project. “@playboicarti gifts youngboy a chain ahead of their new collab album,” read the caption.

    Neither Carti nor Youngboy have confirmed the alleged joint album.

    The Weeknd surprised his fans during The Idol film premiere last week when he previewed an unreleased collab with Playboi Carti. Neither Weeknd nor Carti has revealed any more details about the forthcoming track.

    In an interview with W Magazine earlier this month, the Afterhours singer shared that he is approaching the end of The Weeknd chapter and could release music under the moniker Abel in the future.

    “I’m going through a cathartic path right now,” Weeknd said. “It’s getting to a place and a time where I’m getting ready to close The Weeknd chapter. I’ll still make music, maybe as Abel, maybe as The Weeknd. But I still want to kill The Weeknd. And I will. Eventually. I’m definitely trying to shed that skin and be reborn. The album I’m working on now is probably my last hurrah as The Weeknd. This is something that I have to do. As The Weeknd, I’ve said everything I can say.”

    Lil Uzi Vert revealed the state of his relationship with Payboi Carti while performing an unreleased song during his set at Rolling Loud California 2023 over the weekend. “Shout out to Carti, we don’t talk hardly, but that’s where my heart be,” Uzi rapped on the song.

    The track is expected to appear on the Philly rapper’s next mixtape, The Pink Tape. Uzi has been teasing the project since 2021. It will follow up his collab tape with Future, Pluto x Baby Pluto, as well as his solo album, Eternal Atake.

    Carti says “it’s time” for new music

    Playboi Carti announces new music reportedly arriving at the beginning of 2023. On Christmas day, the 26-year-old rapper returned on Twitter with a “hello” to his 2.4M followers while teasing new music. “Love all my supporters it’s time,” he wrote, sparking excitement from fans since he doesn’t post on social media so often, especially about new music. He also shared a screenshot of four unreleased songs on Instagram stories.

    During one of his Twitch streams over the weekend, DJ Akademiks said he received confirmation that Carti has new music on the way. “They said Carti is in the zone. Just like his tweet said, ‘it is time,’” Akademiks said before adding that the album will drop “maybe January or February.”


    While speaking to XXL in April, the Whole Lotta Red rapper said he planned to name his next album Music. “I was about to name my album Music because that’s where I’m at, you know what I’m saying? Music,” he explained. When asked to clarify what the title of the forthcoming album will be, he clarified, “Music because that’s all it is at this point.”

    At just 27, Chief Keef is already one of the most influential rappers of our generation. On Saturday (December 17), Spotify’s Rap Caviar listed on Instagram several artists who’ve publicly expressed their admiration for Sosa including Lil Uzi Vert, Playboi Carti, NBA Youngboy, Lil Yachty, Doja Cat, Key Glock, GloRilla, Coi Leray, and singer Billie Eilish. Keef left a comment on the post appreciating them for acknowledging his impact on the culture by simply writing, “Salute all the ones who keep it really real tho.”

    According to Rap Caviar, Uzi said the following of Keef in an interview with Sway In The Morning in 2016: “I’m not going to lie: I listen to a lot of Sosa. Even in my early days of rapping… everything I listened to, you can hear the influence in my music.”

    “I ain’t never had a role model, watched Chief Keef growing up,” Youngboy told The Fader in 2017.

    Speaking to L.A. Lakers in 2018, Playboi Carti explained, “Growing up when I seen the drill and that [drill] sound hit me it was just like crazy. It’s kinda hard to explain… They (300) really held me down. I talk to Sosa all the time.”

    Multi-award-wining singer Billie Eilish also revealed her fandom for the Chicago-born rapper to the British Vogue in 2021. “I feel empowered when I sing H.E.R. songs, or like, Chief Keef to be honest, I don’t even know if they have Chief Keef at karaoke bars, but I would request some Chief Keef.”

    Kanye West’s fourth track on Donda album, “Off The Grid,” is now certified platinum by RIAA after earning 1 million copies in the US. The song features vocal contributions from Playboi Carti and Fivio Foreign.

    Ye first played the song at a Belgian hotel in 2020 without Fivio Foreign’s verse. The record was thought to be part of Playboi Carti’s Whole Lotta Red, but didn’t appear on the album.

    The Drill song was later played at Ye’s second Donda listening party in Atlanta August 2021, this time with Foreign’s verse. Ye debuted his additional verse at Chicago listening party later that month.
