Quest is thrilled to appear on De La Soul’s video

Questlove savors an almost surreal milestone after appearing in the “Oodles of O’s” video by De La Soul, a song so significant to him that he claims it completely changed his life.

On Tuesday (October 8), the drummer of The Roots shared some glimpses on his Instagram profile of the impending release of the much-anticipated video for De La’s iconic 1991 song, set to premiere later this month.

This video features content about De La Soul’s “Oodles of O’s” pop-up donut shop that was held this past summer in New York, and it includes appearances from Questlove, Common, Masta Ace, Ebro Darden, DJ Tony Touch, actor Rick Gonzalez, and more.

Yet even after having had such a famed career stretching over thirty years and counting, Questlove admitted that his experience of being a part of the visual for his favorite De La Soul song was quite a significant and humbling one.

“Astral traveling to another earth to tell my 20 year old self ‘remember the first song on the album that floored you so much that you and your friend from high school started getting serious about getting a record deal,’” Quest explained.

“(good news! you’ll get a record deal in less than 2 years!!!, but nevermind—-your life will truly begin some 31 years FROM THIS MOMENT…..——can ya hang on that long? (I’m just playing, sike im kidding, it’s really going to take you THREE DECADES dawg….

Questlove says rappers keeping Hip-Hop alive today go unnoticed: ‘There’s so much quality’

Quest believes some rappers don’t get credit they deserve

Questlove previously stirred up controversy when he declared that “Hip-Hop is dead,” but it looks he doesn’t hold that stance anymore.

During a recent appearance on NPR, the rapper said that Hip-Hop is indeed alive, only that those who keep that away don’t get enough attention.

“I don’t think hip-hop is dead,” he explained. “If an MC like Little Simz, which people rarely talk about … I don’t think people give enough attention to Griselda: Westside [Gunn], Conway [The Machine] and Benny [The Butcher]. Or even, like, Tobe [Nwigwe], Mick Jenkins, Errol Holden, even Denzel Curry. There’s so much quality, dope stuff out there that just goes unnoticed and unchampioned.”

QuestLove expounds on 2Pac’s Biggie diss ‘Hit ‘Em Up’ criticism, says he has no issues with late rapper

QuestLove had issues with interpolation used on the record

QuestLove makes his position clear when he criticized 2Pac’s Biggie diss “Hit ‘Em Up.” The rapper hopped on social media to explain that he had problems with the interpolation of Dennis Edwards & Siedah Garrett’s 1984 song “Don’t Look Any Further” and that he wasn’t targeting neither ‘Pac nor Dennis.

“So we are clear: I never said I liked the INTERPOLATION (when musicians replay a sample) of ‘Don’t Look Any Further’ on ‘Hit ‘Em Up,’” Quest said. “I said nothing disparaging about Dennis Edwards or Pac. Y’all turning this into a weird game of telephone.”
