Rakim and Scarface Tease Joint Album, Pete Rock Offers to Produce

Rakim has recently teased about working on a collaborative album with Scarface which has sent the Hip Hop world, including producer Pete Rock, into a frenzy.

On Monday (November 18), Rakim made an Instagram post that included a photo of himself and the Geto Boys’ member in the Bahamas.

The post was tagged with the message-which can be assumed in jest, “Who wants this album!!!”

The proposed collaboration was well-received by a plethora of Hip Hop acts such as Kxng Crooked, Kid Capri, Torae, Lord Finesse, and Ant Banks. In the case of Pete Rock, however, it was not a mere request: he made it clear that he wanted to be the project’s producer.

Scarface Reveals Near-Death Experience During Open Heart Surgery, Thanks to Life-Saving Surgeon

    Scarface reflects on open-heart surgery

Scarface divulged that he barely survived death after undergoing open-heart surgery recently, owing to the prowess of one of the finest heart surgeons in the country.

The Geto Boys icon shared an Instagram post Tuesday (October 8) in which he said that this summer he had to undergo surgery to fix an aortic aneurysm and repair a leaky valve but found out that it was something much more serious when they opened him up.

Alongside a photo of himself and his surgeon, Dr. Andrea Quarti, Scarface wrote: “This is the man, one of the most sought after surgeons in the world, when I was told, ‘this Dr. is hard to get’ he’s one of the best if not THE BEST.”

Scarface uncovered that during the surgery, his aneurysm had ruptured the entire circumference of his aorta-and that would have been fatal. “[B]ut nope, no surprise to him, I woke 24hrs+ later,” Scarface added, “and I asked him, why me doc, out of all the people you could’ve worked on?

“He looked up to the heavens and he did this [one finger in the air emoji] wow, and again I say I’m grateful.”

Scarface recalls hanging out with Pac in LA

Scarface was recently onstage for his Behind The Desk Experience Tour when he shared a story where 2Pac played police after the Geto Boys rapper smoked LA weed for the first time.

“First time I got to California, I’m in L.A., smoking LA weed. We ain’t ever had no shit like this before,” Scarface recounted. “I’m living in Burbank and recording the Untouchable album. It’s my first time getting high with some L.A. chronic.”

He added, “The homeboy pull up on me, he got a black Hummer with a fucking siren and loudspeaker on it. I’m in my apartment in Burbank high as fuck for the first time ever, and they come up and they go, ‘Brad Jordan, we know you’re in there, come out with your hands up.’

“I’m on the couch like this and my motherfucking high says [does a walking away action]. He just blew my fucking high, man, and he wanted to go to the studio and record, right? He wanted me to ride in this Hummer with him.”

He continued, “I’m not going anywhere with him because he does not have a driver’s license. And he can’t drive at all.”

    Scarface is a blues guitarist

Housten rapper Scarface got his start as a member of The Geto Boys but his love for music runs much deeper. In addition to being a legendary rapper, Scarface is an amazing guitar player as well. He plays blues and soul music and his talent is obviously more than words.

Apparently, his love for rock music is not new. He learned from his uncles, all of them left-handed, at a young age. He plays it that way even though he’s right-handed. He’s been playing for years and looks up to artists including ZZ Top and Rush in addition to funkier bands like Parliament.

Scarface – Cinema for the Culture

One of the most rapped about movies of all time is Scarface. This 1983 crime classic stars Al Pacino as Tony Montana, a Cuban refugee that becomes a major drug kingpin in Miami. Generations of rappers have taken content from the film, directed by Brian De Palma and written by Oliver Stone, making it a critical part of the rap cinema canon.

Housten rapper Scarface sampled the movie on his albums several times, as did Raekwon on OBFCL and Jay-Z on Reasonable Doubt. Chief Keef aka “Sosa” borrowed his nickname from a character in the movie.

Biggie used, “Never get high on your own supply…” one of the lines from the movie, on his song “Ten Crack Commandments.” Nas based the video for his single, “The world is Yours” on Scarface. Nicki Minaj paraphrased the “Bad Guy” scene in her single “Chun Li.” Future’s “Tony Montana” speaks for itself.

Other renowned artists have used lyrical references to the movie that hit home for anybody that’s seen it. Here are a few more examples.

    “I’m like Scarface sniffin’ cocaine
Holdin’ an M16, see, with the pen I’m extreme…”

    Nas, “NY State of Mind”

    “Bought a crib like Scarface’s
    “This is my world”

    Wiz Khalifa, “Taylor Gang”

“They gon’ go Tony Montana and cop them some Shaq at the free throws”

    Drake, from Meek Mill’s “R.I.C.O.”
