“This circus of a trial has had him in custody for over a year and with all the legal errors, jury misconduct and conflicts of interest by the state he deserves to at the very least fight this from home.”

Young Thug and YSL RICO trial: Defence attorney warns trial could run for three years

Defence attorney concerned about speed of trial

A defense attorney in the Young Thug and YSL RICO case has cautioned that the ongoing trial could take years. The prosecution initially had 700 witnesses listed but later reduced the number to 400 and so far, only 40 witnesses have testified. This rate could see the trial cross into 2027. The defense argues that this will violate the sixth ammendment which stipulates the defendant’s right to a speedy trial.

According to HipHopDX, the defence filled a motion on Tuesday (March 19) that called for a “detailed explanation of the expected testimony of each respective witness and an explanation of how that witness’ proposed testimony is not cumulative of other witnesses nor causing undue delay nor a waste of time.”

YSL RICO case: prosecution seeks ban on courtroom filming

Prosecution wants media to stop recording court sessions

The YSL RICO case has been nothing short of strange occurrences. According to HipHopDX, prosecutors in the case filed a motion on Friday (January 19) seeking a permanent ban on filming court sessions.

“The State is not outright requesting an outright denial of recording in this trial,” the filing reads. “Instead, each of the State’s requests is explicitly referenced in Rule 22(G)(2) as an example of a “least restrictive possible limitation” on recording short of denial.”

Young Thug’s dad on Lil Baby allegedly dissing Gunna – ‘He need to shut the f**k up’

Thug’s father continues to defend Gunna

Gunna’s plea deal that saw him released in 2022 in the YSL RICO case has been a hot topic in the hip hop space, with some, even fellow rappers, speculating that he snitched on Young Thug. Thug’s father Jeffery “Big Jeff” Williams Sr. has not been backing these claims, however.

Big Jeff recently spoke to court vlogger Infamous Sylvia in a virtual interview where he was asked about the prospect of Lil Baby dissing Gunna over the snitching allegations.

“He need to shut the f**k up. Cause he don’t know what’s going on,” he said, before adding, “ask Lil Baby if he ever came to a court date. That’s what I want y’all to ask these goddamn rappers and these bloggers with the snitchin’ shit.”

Back in September, Big Jeff also told Infamous Sylvia that Gunna’s plea deal “hasn’t done anything whatsoever that can hurt us on this case.”

Meek Mill says Young Thug and YFN Lucci’s lyrics shouldn’t be used against them since rappers help each other write

Meek is strongly against lyrics being used against rappers in court

Meek Mill has always been opposed to the idea of lyrics being used in court against rappers. This week, he jumped on X to give further reasons for his stand.

“It should be impossible to charge thug and lucci for lyrics because in the studio we all give eachother lines and don’t remember who said what after a high night in the studio,” he argued. “I have done it with both of them … they both gave me lyrics b4… we all do this!”

YSL RICO trial on pause until January following stabbing of Young Thug’s co-defendant

Thug’s co-defendant was stabbed over the weekend

The ongoing YSL RICO case involving Young Thug and others has been put on recess until January 2, 2024. This is after one co-defendant, Shannon Stillwell, was stabbed Sunday night (December 10), forcing him to miss two consecutive hearings on Monday and Tuesday.

“Unfortunately, [Stillwell’s] medical condition still exists,” Judge Ural Glanville informed the jury. “And given the length of time that we’re probably gonna have to address that, it might just be more prudent to recess you and give you an early recess instead of recessing you this Friday as the court’s plan was originally. I’m gonna recess you for the holidays today.”

One of Young Thug’s co-defendants in the ongoing YSL RICO case named Shannon Stillwell (a.k.a Shannon Jackson) was stabbed in Fulton County jail Sunday night (December 10), according to WSB-TV.

“Don’t get too comfortable, alright?” Judge Ural Glanville said to jurors on Monday. “We’ve had a medical issue come up with one of our participants so I’m going to have to recess for today. These things happen.”

Stillwell’s attorney told the New York Times that the defendant is “with us” and “alive,” although he added: “But I fear that it was serious.”

Judge Glanville said during Tuesday morning’s session that the “medical issue” was still ongoing.

YSL RICO Case: Witness fails to identify Young Thug’s brother in the courtroom

    YSL RICO trial is underway

The YSL RICO trial involving Young Thug and dozens of others is currently ongoing and here are some interesting updates. According to HipHopDX, a witness couldn’t identify Thug’s brother Quantavious Grier during a court session on Thursday (December 7).

“Well, he was sittin’ over there, but I don’t know where he’s sittin’ at now,” the witness said after he was asked to point where Grier was sitting. He later added that Grier was “sittin’ next to the light-skinned dude.”

The interesting part is that Grier couldn’t have been in the courtroom since he is serving almost 10 years sentence for felony murder. It is believed that the witness was mistaking another attorney for Grier.
