Nas was suspended from school, in the 7th grade for stabbing one of his fellow students with a pencil. He raps about this on “John Blaze” saying: “I used to pack a No. 2 pencil stabbin’ students”. Nas grew up in the Queensbridge housing projects in Queens, N.Y., he eventually dropped out of school in the 8th grade shortly after his parents, Olu Dara and Fannie Ann Jones divorced, he then educated himself in music and life.
