The Geto Boys‘ 1991 hit “Mind Playing Tricks on Me” off their album We Can’t Be Stopped, was what inspired Kid Cudi‘s “Day ‘n’ Nite”

During a 2012 interview about his 25 favourite albums, Kid Cudi revealed that the Geto Boys’ 1991 album We Can’t Be Stopped and their single “Mind Playing Tricks on Me” was what inspired “Day ‘n’ Nite.”

A lot of people don’t know this but Geto Boys’ ‘My Mind Playing Tricks On Me’ is the song that inspired ‘Day ‘N’ Nite.’ ‘My Mind Playing Tricks On Me’ is my favorite song in the world. I love it so much I wanted to make my own version of it. And then ‘Day ‘N’ Nite’ came out of it.” Kid Cudi told Complex

The Geto Boys’ “Mind Playing Tricks on Me” peaked at No. 23 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and Kid Cudi’s Day ‘n’ Nite peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
