Leonard Hubbard was a staple on early albums from the Roots. The Philly breed bassist joined the group in 1993 and rocked with the group until 2007’s Game Theory. His live performance was part of the vintage era of The Roots, his signature chew stick tucked in his cheek as he slapped away at the bass. He was also a composer in his own right.
Leonard Hubbard, known as Hub, was diagnosed with blood cancer 14 years ago. He passed away on December 16, 2021 after completing new music he had yet to share with the world. The Roots left this tribute to the bass player on their Twitter account.
In 2020, Malik B of The Roots from 1988-1999 also passed away.
