At the time, some of the biggest names in rap and R&B joined forces for the soundtrack to the film Above the Rim, a basketball drama starring rapper Tupac Shakur. Pac was also featured prominently on the soundtrack as were artists like Snoop Dogg, The Lady of Rage, SWV, and more.
The ATR soundtrack was released on Death Row Records and was executive produced by Suge Knight. It featured the breakout hit for Warren G and Nate Dog called “Regulate,” Pac’s “Pour Out a Little Liquor” and numerous other jams. The album peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200 and made it to #1 on the R&B chart for 10 weeks.
