21 Savage attended a campaign event for Georgia Democratic governor candidate Stacy Abrams last month where he opened about his struggles for being a British immigrant in the US.
“Like, I went through a lot,” 21 said. “I wasn’t born here. I just feel like, people in schools they don’t get paid enough to do the work they really need to. So I think that’s where it started.”
in a clip shared by HipHopDx, he Atlanta-based rapper was asked about getting kicked out of school because bullies “targeted” him for being a UK citizen and he replied, “yeah.”
Stacey Abrams added on the issue, “I think what’s so important and your willingness to share it is that many of the challenges we see start in school. When young people are treated like tiny criminals… When they are bullied… It not only changes your experience, it changes your outlook.”
In September, 21’s lawyer filed a motion in court to have the evidence obtained during the rapper’s arrest in 2019 thrown away. The attorney labeled the arrest an “unlawful stop.”
