TDE Punch reflects on the making of ‘gkmc’
Kendrick Lamar‘s landmark album, good kid, m.A.A.d city, hit a record-breaking milestone last week after it became the first hip-hop album to spend ten years on Billboard 200. Top Dawg Entertainment co-founder Punch went on Twitter over the weekend to celebrate the classic project.
“Man it’s so much to say about that album. We all put everything into it. GKMC was the start. We made our mark in Hip Hop and music in general with that album. I’m forever grateful to have played a part in it,” Punch wrote.
When a fan asked Punch of his favorite moments in the creation of the album, he recalled K-Dot adding the “m.A.A.d City” chorus hours before the album was turned in for mastering. “Can’t think of a favorite,” he replied. “But one memory is Kdot adding the hook part on madd city literally hours before mastering. I think he actually had to send the hook cause [MixedByAli] had left to get it mastered already. So that song was just one verse at first.”
