Snoop outraged by streaming payouts
Snoop Dogg is not convinced that there is fairness in how streaming platforms pay artists. During a conversation on Business Untitled, the Long Beach rapper revealed that a billion streams generated less than $45k for him.
“They just sent me some shit from Spotify where I got a billion streams right?” Snoop explained. “My publisher hit me, I said, ‘break it down, how much money is that?’ That shit weren’t even $45,000.”
This is not the first time Snoop has lashed out about streaming payouts. While speaking to Apple Music‘s former director Larry Jackson at a panel in May, the I Still Got It rapper questioned how streaming platforms split funds.
“Streaming needs to get their shit together,” he said. “I don’t understand how you get paid off that shit. Can somebody explain to me how you can get a billion streams and not get a million dollars? I don’t know who the f–k runnin’ the streaming industry if you’re in here or not. You need to give us some information about how to track this money down.”
He explained that the days of selling physical copies were more transparent and that these days “one plus one ain’t up to two.”
