Talib Kweli discusses unconventional music distribution as ‘Liberation 2’ hits streaming platforms


Talib discourages dependency on major labels

and released their joint album Liberation 2 exclusively on Luminary where the duo had more authority over their revenue and interaction with consumers. The project was recently uploaded on platforms and Kweli explained how invaluable independence is.

“Liberation 2 by me and Madlib was initially only available at an exclusive site. This enabled Madlib and I to not have to depend on the goodwill of others to get paid for our art,” Kweli said.

“That exclusive period is now up. Liberation 2 is now available on all DSPs, my bandcamp and the vinyl and CD are available at – as of now with zero major label promotion or support it's the number 5 album in the country,” he added.
