Lil Kim is set to receive the “I Am Hip Hop” award at this year's BET Hip Hop Awards.The Brooklyn rapper was vital in molding the blueprint for female rap. Lil Kim was discovered by the legendary Notorious B.I.G; he invited her to join his group, Junior Mafia. She went on to pursue a solo career in 1996 and became one of the biggest female rap acts of all time. Previous recipients of the “I am Hip Hop” award include: Lil Wayne, Russell Simmons, MC Lyte, Salt N Pepa, and Ice Cube.
