Playboi Carti’s album cover for ‘Whole Lotta Red’ is influenced by Slash Magazine
The direction for Playboi Carti’s Whole Lotta Red is influenced by Los Angeles-based, late 70s magazine, Slash.
Playboi Carti’s influences range over a handful of decades. His influence even dates back to the late 70s, with underground punk music and scene. Slash Magazine covered the underground punk-rock scene in the late 70s. Published by Steve Samiof and Melanie Nissen, the 3-year run (1977-1980, 28 issues) was influential on a global scale. Their goal was to focus on the underground and showcase musicians who weren’t getting notoriety in the mainstream. Ironically, Carti can’t (well shouldn’t) find relativity in the underground scene. Fans have been anticipating his album for a couple years.
