Prosecutors likely to pursue retrial

YNW Melly’s murder trial ended on Saturday (July 22) with Broward Circuit Judge John Murphy rulling a mistrial. Per AP News, a 12-member jury failed to return a unanimous verdict following three days of deliberation. The panel had earlier on told the judge that they had reached a deadlock.

The prosecutors are likely to file for a retrial. They had been seeking the death penalty.

Melly was being accused of shooting to death his two friends YNW SakChaser and YNW Juvy inside a Jeep they were riding in in 2018. Prosecutors claim Melly and his co-defendant YNW Bortlen then staged a drive-by shooting and drove the bodies of their dead buddies to the hospital.
