T.I. and Tameka “Tiny” Harris’ legal victory against LOL Surprise! doll makers
T.I. and his wife Tameka “Tiny” Harris legal gains against toy makers MGA Entertainment, makers of LOL Surprise! dolls could be derailed significantly.
The couple was to receive $71 million from a suits on intellectual property infringement and this brought a lot of stir in toy market. However, a federal judge is now deliberating whether to cut down that amount to under $18 million—a $53 million slash.
The said judge James Selna presiding over the case, suggested that the appropriateness of the original award could be into question where there was no evidence of MGA committing intentional malice or bad faith. ‘At least something to contemplate,’ Interim Supreme Court of California Selna said in To during the recent hearing. “I want to come back to this issue as I need some distance first.”
The Harrises said that MGA had profited from ideas and likenesses it asserted were exploited. When the court sided with the couple, it was not reconsidering the damages, but the change in the awards might sharply reverse the highly publicized lawsuit.
Indeed, as it stands now the verdict is yet to be made, and both parties continue to wait a shift in the odds of competing in intellectual property cases.
