Hip-Hop was born on the night of August 11th, 1973 when DJ Kool Herc gave the first Hip-Hop Jam. DJ Kool Herc, who’s from Kingston, Jamaica DJ’d at the event making him the first Hip-Hop DJ. Herc is often credited as the Godfather and Founder of Hip-Hop.
Herc was nicknamed “Hercules” because he had big muscles and he had big speakers, which powered the original sound of what would be the start of Hip-Hop.
DJ Kool Herc mastered the turntables and invented something called the “Breaks” from Disco beats for breakdancers to breakdance and for Coke La Rock to spit the first rhymes and call out names and Hip-Hop was born from there.
