Compton rapper and producer DJ Quik, born David Blake in 1970, is a West Coast rap pioneer. His sound defined much of the 1990s and he worked with legends including Snoop Dogg, 2Pac, Tony! Toni! Tone!, Kam, Eric Sermon, E-40, and others.
His party music has been a staple for generations of rap fans. His debut album Quik is the Name was a top 10 release and went platinum. His later albums would never reach this level of success but his music has always been well-received by critics and fans.
