DJ Unk, the rapper, producer, and DJ renowned for his 2006-2007 hits “Walk It Out” and “2 Step,” has passed away. His death was confirmed by his wife, Sherika Long-Platt, on January 24 via a Facebook post, and later verified by his label, Big Oomp Records.

Big Oomp Records released a heartfelt statement, calling DJ Unk, born Anthony Platt, “a true ATL legend” and expressing deep condolences to his family, friends, and fans. The label praised his contributions to the music industry, particularly his iconic tracks like “Walk It Out” and “2 Step,” which have left a lasting impact on both artists and fans. “His energy, creativity, and commitment to the craft will never be forgotten,” they said.

Unk’s passing has been reported at different ages, with sources suggesting he was either 42 or 43 years old.

In a 2023 interview with HipHopDX, Unk reflected on the monumental moment when he learned that André 3000 had recorded a verse for the “Walk It Out” remix, sharing how it felt like a dream come true to collaborate with the OutKast legend.

The hip-hop community mourns the loss of a major figure in the industry, and Unk’s music and influence will continue to resonate for years to come.
