NBA YoungBoy has now received his punishment: 27 months in federal prison for possession of a firearm due to an incident in Baton Rouge a few years prior, The Tribune reported. However, after accounting for time served, he is expected to spend the remainder of approximately one year in prison, followed by an additional five years under supervised probation.
These charges arose around 2020. YoungBoy, who is Kentrell Gaulden, was caught in Baton Rouge where he was filming a music video, and discovered with a Glock .45 caliber pistol and a Masterpiece Arms 9mm. He agreed to plead guilty to gun possession, and the case was subsequently transferred from Louisiana to Utah, where the rapper later faced unrelated charges for drug possession and identity fraud.
Last month, YoungBoy in fact went on to get a reduced sentence in Utah after pleading guilty to multiple fraud-related charges. Per the plea deal, four felony charges will be reduced to Class A misdemeanors with a $25,000 fine but no additional prison time.
The sentence was met with a hope for the rapper’s future by Judge Walsh who said, “I have seen children so many times where young men and women… utterly robbed of that potential when it’s because they’re struggling with their addictions. I don’t want that for you.”
According to state prosecutor Ronnie Keller, resolving the matter is but “one smaller cog in the bigger wheel of ultimately seeking justice,” as it concerns the multi-jurisdictional complexities of the case.
Winding down his legal affairs, NBA YoungBoy is poised to spend a pivotal year behind bars as he wraps up the sentence with respect to Federal law and enters into supervised probation, paving the way for a promising restart to his career and personal life.
