Nas’ highly anticipated ‘Lost Tapes 2’ to arrive July 19th

Escobar season has returned. Nas and Def Jam Recordings took to Twitter this afternoon (July 2) to announce the forthcoming of Lost Tapes 2 later this month — July 19th — a long-awaited sequel to his highly regarded Lost Tapes project released back in 2002.

The original Lost Tapes was compiled together with cuts from previous efforts that didn’t wind up making commercially released albums. With this project, the formula will remain consistent. It’s expected that this project will include work dating back to Nas’s 2006 Hip Hop Is Dead in addition to his most recent Kanye West produced LP “Nasir.”

In a video posted to Def Jam Recordings official Twitter account, a snippet of the album lays over a video of the iconic labeled cassette tape. Towards the end, a juggernaut list of production credits can be found that includes: RZA, Pharrell Williams, Swizz Beatz, No I.D., The Alchemist, Kanye West, Pete Rock, Statik Selektah, Hit-Boy, and others.

  • Meek Mill is now a co-owner of the sports apparel retailer Lids

Meek Mill is now a co-owner of the sports apparel retailer Lids

Meek Mill has definitely been having dinners with Jay-Z. On Wednesday (June 26), Meek Mill announced that he has became a co-owner of Lids, the biggest hat retailer in North America with more than 1,200 retail locations across the United States.

“I’ve always been a fan of Lids – growing up, I remember buying their hats to match my outfits and look my best,” Mill said. “It’s amazing to see my relationship with the brand come full-circle and have the opportunity to evolve as a businessman. We have a great team in place and we’re looking forward to taking Lids to new heights.”

Meek also told Business Insider that he wants to use his position as the creative strategist to further infuse hip-hop culture with the company.

“I would definitely love to involve our whole culture in Lids more,” Meek Mill says. “Because, first thing we do in merchandise in hip-hop, we sell hats, we sell all types of things.”

Lids is co-owned by Ames Watson and Fanatics, whose CEO is Sixers limited partner and Meek Mill’s good friend, Michael Rubin. As a new stakeholder in the brand, Meek Mill will lead the creative side and release his own limited-edition, exclusive hat line this August.

“The Lids design team is thrilled to collaborate with Meek Mill,” Lids CEO Tom Ripley says. “He is a true original artist with an incredible sense of fashion. Meek’s first line of hats will be unique and the first of many ways we work together.”

  • Childish Gambino’s ‘Because The Internet’ album was recorded in Chris Bosh’s home

Childish Gambino’s ‘Because The Internet’ album was recorded in Chris Bosh’s home

During an interview with Tim Westwood, Childish Gambino revealed that his 2013 album ‘Because the Internet‘ was actually recorded at a mansion that was owned by Chris Bosh in Pacific Palisades, California. Chris Bosh bought the home in late 2012, and he had absolutely nothing to do with the actual recording of the album as he wasn’t present during the time. Childish Gambino was renting the Pacific Palisades home for $45,000 a month and he referred to it as “The Temple.”

    Clapping For the Wrong Reasons

“Me and my friends rented a house,”  Childish Gambino told Westwood. “It was Chris Bosh’s mansion. I shouted him out before. We stayed there, and we just ate s’mores and, like, made songs and stuff like that.”

Childish Gambino said he’s pretty sure Chris Bosh never even visits the house and only uses it to make money, makes sense considering Chris Bosh listed the Pacific Palisades mansion for sale that same year (2013) for $14.5 million.

Donald Glover also used the home in his short film ‘Clapping For The Wrong Reasons’ and Chris Bosh appeared in the “Special Thanks” of the credits. Childish Gambino had strict house rules including no tweeting, no Instagram posts, no shoes and working beginning at 10 a.m. each day.
