Pop Smoke‘s verses couldn’t appear on Exodus as they were already used
DMX‘s first posthumous album, Exodus, arrived on Friday (May 28), and fans can’t be more than happy to embrace the new project. As the 13-track record continues to receive spontaneous spins, many have been trying to find answers as to why Pop Smoke’s verse is missing. Swizz Beatz, one of X’s close pals, hasn’t been open about the issue, until now.
In a new interview with The Breakfast Club, Swizz explained why Pop didn’t end up appearing on Exodus. “They used the verse already. I know X wouldn’t want an old verse. We fought for it.” He also revealed the verse was “pulled out of nowhere” before adding, “It was two verses and both of them was used. We went to get another verse and it was used.”

To replace Pop’s place, Swizz Beatz explains that he had to tap Moneybagg Yo on “Money Money Money.” “I just put Moneybagg on the song,” he said. “Not that they the same energy, but they the same demographic. X wanted to touch that part too. I’m not mad at it. I like Moneybagg verse better anyway.”
X had revealed in a Drink Champs interview that Pop would feature on Exodus right before he passed. The late New York Drill rapper’s collab was one of the most anticipated.
As much as many fans are disappointed with Pop being left off, X’s new album has been getting a lot of love and positive reviews. What do you think of DMX’s new album?
