Chance The Rapper Drops Political Single ‘Quiet Storm’ on Inauguration Day

The Chicago Star Speaks Out Against Oppressive Powers in New Track

Chance the Rapper released a politically charged single titled “Quiet Storm” on Monday, January 20, Inauguration Day. The track, which initially appears to be a heartfelt on-air dedication, soon transforms into a pointed critique of oppressive colonial powers and Western governments’ long-standing impact on marginalized communities.

In “Quiet Storm,” Chance raps, “I know your specialties—espionage, sabotage / I know your tendencies—crashing out, caviar,” which is a direct commentary on the exploitative behavior of dominant global powers. The track’s radio-themed title and dedication style add a layer of intrigue to Chance’s message.

This release is part of his larger Star Line project, which continues the social and political awareness themes that Chance has explored throughout his career. Last year, the rapper voiced frustrations with how fans were referring to the project, insisting they call it by its official name, Star Line, rather than just “the album.” His commitment to this project’s unique vision is clear, as he teases that a full release is contingent upon fans adopting the correct language when discussing it.

With “Quiet Storm,” Chance The Rapper solidifies his role as an outspoken voice on social issues, continuing to blend his artistry with his activism.
