    Dot is proud of SZA

Kendrick Lamar has a great deal of respect and admiration for his former labelmate SZA, who she describes as one of the most talented singers of the generation. The SOS hit-maker is featured on the December 2024 issue of British Vogue where K. Dot showered her with praises.

“There was always a question about something,” he explained. “[Today] I recognize a more expressive SZA. The shy shit is completely out the window – to a degree, at least. She has the answers to some of the things she was curious about and is willing to tell it all in the most disruptive yet beautiful compositions this generation has ever heard.”

Future, Metro Boomin, Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Like That’ appears in new lawsuit, but rappers not being sued

‘Like That’ has been mentioned in new legal filing

Future, Metro Boomin, and Kendrick Lamar have been mentioned in a lawsuit filed by late singer Barry White’s estate, thanks to their smash record “Like That,” but they are not listed as the parties being sued Billboard reported.

The Barry White Family Trust has taken legal action against the 1980s hip-hop group Rodney-O & Joe Cooley, after their song “Everlasting Bass,” which has been sampled in Future, Metro and Kendrick’s song “Like That.” Rodney-O and Cooley are mentioned in the credits of “Like That,” however, the lawsuit states that their track “Everlasting Bass” uses parts of song “I’m Gonna Love You Just a Little More Baby” that was done by Barry White in 1973.

The complaint attaches the label “infringing work” to the song “Like That,” however, its producers and artists are not included in the suit. The estate of White states, however, states that Future and everyone else involved is indemnified, and therefore their liability relating to any issues over the work “Like That” exists with Rodney-O & Joe Cooley.

Additionally, the lawsuit justifies the time, or rather inaction with regard to filing a suit against Rodney-O & Joe Cooley despite the fact that “Everlasting Bass” was recorded in the 1980s: “Since the Defendants’ song, Everlasting Bass, was released prior to the internet and was not widely distributed, the Barry White Trust was unaware of the song when it was first released.”

K-Dot was offered the role but turned it down

“To talk about acting, when we shot [the ‘D.N.A.’] video, Kendrick was so with it. […] He stayed in character the whole video. […] He was really committed,” Cheadle recalled. “He was someone that I had thought about casting in my movie I did, Miles Ahead, and have him play the role of Junior.

“We talked about it for a long time and ultimately he said, ‘I don’t think I’m ready to do that. I’m kind of working on a project right now and I have to see that through and I also don’t wanna come in here halfway,’ and I was like, ‘No, I get it.’ And it was [his 2015 album] To Pimp A Butterfly and I’m like, ‘I think you made the right choice on that one!’”
