Roddy Ricch, 30 Roc, Atlantic Records hit with lawsuit over “The Box”

Roddy is facing lawsuit over “The Box” copyright infringement

While Roddy Ricch was celebrating the third anniversary of his breakout smash, “The Box,” earlier this month, the rapper, as well as producer 30 Roc and Atlantic Records, are being sued over copyright infringement over the megahit. Per TMZ, soul music singer Greg Perry claims the No. 1 song contains sounds borrowed from his 1975 track, “Come On Down (Get Your Head Out of the Clouds)” without his permission.

Perry adds that a music specialist “clearly and convincingly” points out the similarity between the two records, thus he wants to be compensated for the damages.

During an interview with GQ in 2020, the Compton native revealed that the track was the last song he recorded for his 2019 blockbuster album, Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial.

“It was actually the last song I made for the album,” he explained. “I made it at, like, 7 a.m. in New York after recording all night. I made the song and just decided to put it on the album. I didn’t even have it as a single before the album came out.”
