    Megan Thee Stallion breaks new Spotify record with ‘HISS’

    Meg’s latest single earned over 10m streams this week on Spotify

    Megan Thee Stallion’s latest record, “HISS,” has been doing well across streaming platforms since its release on January 26. Per Chart Data, the track generated 10.28m streams on Spotify, making it the biggest weekly streaming debut for a solo female rap song on the platform.

    The song is also on its way to debut atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It’ll mark Meg’s first solo No. 1 record.

    It is also set to earn the biggest US unit sale this week.

    Upon release, the single exploded bitter clashes between the Houston rapper and Nicki Minaj, with the latter releasing a diss track titled, “Big Foot” a few days later.

    Since breaking out with her viral smash hit “Feelin’ You (Munch),” the rapper has been riding high with records like “In Ha Mood,” “Gangsta Boo” with Lil Tjay, and more recently “Princess Diana” remix feat. Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift’s “Karma” which at the of publishing of this article, is in the Top 10 of Billboard Hot 100.

    The Weeknd has time and again proved to be one of the greatest talents of all time within the music scene. This week, Abel became the first artist in history to hit 100M monthly listeners on Spotify.

    On top of Weekend’s new milestone, the Canadian singer’s Arianne Grande-assisted “Die For You” remix is on pace to debut at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100 in the coming week. The track, which was originally released in 2016 as the award-wining singer’s album Starboy, dropped on Friday (February 24).

    “Wrote and recorded a verse for my friend after a 14 hour day on set. This certain exception had to be made….” Grande wrote in a TikTok post about her verse on the song.

    Drake became the first artist to earn over 75B streams in Spotify history this week, and he immediately hopped on Instagram to urge the streaming giant to give artists “bonuses” for achievements like these. He went on to demand a “LeBron sized” check for the new record he just set.

    “We should get bonuses like athletes to motivate the future artists to be consistent and competitive …so feel free to send me a Lebron sized cheque I have enough dinner plates @spotify,” Drizzy wrote.

    Weeknd breaks all-time monthly listeners record on Spotify

    Canadian megastar The Weeknd is now the first artist to clock over 95M monthly listeners on Spotify. The multi-award-winning singer reached 94M monthly listeners for the first time last week and the numbers have been rising steadily.

    In mid-last December, Abel was featured on the Avatar: The Way Of Water Original Motion Pictures soundtrack on the song, “Nothing Is Lost (You Give Me Strength).”

    The Weekend has appeared on Spotify’s top monthly listeners several times. The After Hours singer released his last album, Dawn FM, in January 2022.

    Chief Keef shares the belief with many that he’s the reason drill music is now listened to on a worldwide scale. The Chicago rapper and Spotify celebrated the 10th anniversary of his debut album, Finally Rich, last week with a show in New York, his top streaming city on the platform.

    In an interview during the Spotify event, Keef was asked “how does it feel to have such a massive impact” at only 27, to which he replied, “I love it. It’s hard though cause it ain’t really what I did it for though. I just did cause I love this shit. It just ended up being like that. I f*ck with it though. That’s hard though. You know, it’s a lotta people that really grew up on me and just f*ck with me.”

    The interviewer then asked Sosa how he feels about many people calling him “the godfather of drill music,” and he quickly responded, “I am. It’s real.” After he was asked to repeat his declaration, the “Love Sosa” hit-maker added, “I am, it’s real. I’m a Godfather, You know that. I’m the founder. I started this shit. We all know that. The whole world know that. Everybody. Paris, London, Japan, China USA.”

    Drake is now the first artist to have 12 albums streamed over 1B times in Spotify’s history. On Christmas day, two of his projects crossed the 1B mark including the joint album with 21 Savage, Her Loss. The other project that reached the milestone is his 2021 three-song EP, Scary Hours 2.

    Back in October, the 6 God became the first rapper to have ten songs score over 1B plays on the palrtform.

    Drake joined forces with 21 Savage in November to deliver Her Loss. The album opened at No. 1 on Billboard 200 with over 404K album-equivalent units earned in the first week. It was streamed around 514M times in that week.

    Singer SZA has now earned over 10B streams across all credits on Spotify. This achievement follows the success of her latest album, SOS. The album was released on December 16 and has remained at the top of the charts with 180K units sold in the second week. She is the first black female artist to have an album sit at No. 1 on Billboard 200 in the first two weeks since Beyoncé’s 2013 eponymous album.

    In the opening week, SOS debuted atop the charts after scoring 318K equivalent album units. It earned 405M streams in the first week, the most for any R&B album.
