Vybz Kartel Declares Drake a ‘Better and Bigger Artist’ Than Kendrick Lamar

Kartel isn’t a big Kendrick fan

Dancehall legend Vybz Kartel himself takes sides in the long-running debate between Kendrick Lamar and Drake, and naturally, he sided with the Canadian superstar.

In an interview with Billboard, Kartel discussed Kendrick by saying, “I’m not a fan of Kendrick. I don’t even listen to Kendrick, so I wouldn’t know. What does he rap? No disrespect to the dude, but I hear him, I don’t listen to him.” However, on the other hand, he described Drake as one who made a direct connection with the Jamaican culture, labeling him “a better and bigger artist.”

In line with that, he commented to Complex in December stating: “LYRICALLY, Kendrick is good, but to me, on a global scale, Drake gets the point across.”

In addition, this past summer, Drake, who has been a fan of Kartel for a long time, rejoiced at the news of the dancehall great’s release from prison. Kartel was freed on July 31 after the Jamaican Court of Appeals confirmed the overturning of the murder conviction that robbed him of his freedom for 13 years.

With a selfie wearing a Kartel-emblazoned T-shirt, the 6 God celebrated by saying, “BOSS FREE UP NOW! Adidjaaaaaaa,” Adidja being the real name of Kartel, Adidja Palmer, who spoke of the moment.

Now that Kartel endorsed him, it shows how far Drake’s influence travels into the realm of music.
