British actor Damson Idris plays Franklin Saint on FX‘s Snowfall and he owes WC a thank you. If you watch the show you may be surprised because the character sounds like the actor was from Compton or South Central.
This is due in no small part to the voice-coaching talents of California rapper WC. He put it down as an example of what a West Coast gangster accent is supposed to sound like. His voice and slang have been a staple in gangsta rap for decades. Damson shared the story on Kimmel earlier this year.
Connect Gang Legacy
As part of the Westside Connection, WC was 1/3 of the ‘90s rap supergroup that took the world by storm with their hit “Bow Down.” He also had some solo efforts with his crew the Maad Circle. If you notice, this spelling is similar to Kendrick’s album Good Kid M.A.A.D. City.
Snowfall was created by John Singleton and is loosely based on the life of Freeway Ricky Ross, the drug kingpin that Florida rapper Rick Ross borrowed his name from. Season five returns on Feb 23, 2022.
