The single was released on July 7, 1998, under Ruffhouse and Columbia records. “Doo Wop (That Thing)” was written, produced, and recorded by Lauryn Hill herself and went No. 1 on the US Hot 100 charts and peaked at the No. 1 position on November 14, 1998.
