The multi-instrumentalist and singer D’Angelo was born in 1974 in Richmond, VA. Real name Michael Eugene Archer, he’s worked with Common, The Roots, Dj Premier, Redman and Method Man, J Dilla, Lauryn Hill, and Q-Tip to name a few.
1995’s Brown Sugar put him on the map and the follow-up Voodoo was also classic material. A years-long hiatus followed until Black Messiah arrived in 2014. His style is defiant and heavily artistic, mixing elements of rap, soul, and blues into original and progressive music.
