The New York State Senate has passed Senate Bill S727 or the “Rap on Trial” law that’s been cosigned by Jay-Z, Meek Mill, and others. Senator Bailey said, “Rap should not be treated differently from any other art form; yet in courtrooms across the country, artists have been unfairly targeted for simply exercising their right to creative expression…” This news comes as Atlanta’s YSL record label is hit with a RICO charge.
Jay-Z has been a longtime political advocate for select causes. He and Meek Mill worked together with Van Jones on REFORM Alliance and he has supported causes such as clean water access in Africa. This latest development takes place in an already busy election year and the native New Yorker is using his influence in these serious times.
