The beat for Kendrick Lamar’s ‘HUMBLE.’ was originally for Gucci Mane

Published October 23, 2019 by

Mike Will Made It produced Kendrick Lamar‘s first solo No. 1 single HUMBLE. with Gucci Mane in mind, just around the time Guwop was getting out of jail. Mike Will eventually played the HUMBLE. beat for Kendrick Lamar because “it kind of has an N.W.A./Dr. Dre feel, an Eminem kind of feel.” and he loved it… Mike Will also produced the album tracks DNA. and XXX. —which he was surprised to hear U2 on.

“With ‘HUMBLE.,’ I knew that beat was going to capture a moment. It just felt real urgent. I made that beat when Gucci Mane was getting out of jail; I made it with him in mind,” he explains. “I was just thinking, damn, Gucci’s about to come home; it’s got to be something urgent that’s just going to take over the radio.”

Mike Will Made It revealed this in an interview with NPR.

Mike Will Made It did get Gucci Mane and Kendrick Lamar on Ransom 2′s Perfect Pint alongside Rae Sremmurd.
