Rappers in movies – Ice Cube’s top 5 movie roles

Share

Ice Cube burst on the scene as an original member of N.W.A. He would later crossover to acting and eventually writing, and producing movies. He even directed a music video for Prince. He co-produced Straight Outta Compton with Dr. Dre back in 2015. Here are 5 of his best performances in no particular order.

Ride Along

One of Cube’s comedic movies was 2014’s Ride Along. He starred opposite Kevin Hart for some serious laughs. There’s a sequel but it’s nowhere near as good as the first.

Higher Learning

Cube reunited with director John Singleton for this college drama. Omar Epps, Regina King, Busta Rhymes, and Tyra Banks also co-starred.

Barber Shop

The original Barber Shop is a classic Black film set in Chicago. The movie starred Anthony Anderson, Cedric the Entertainer, and Eve. It was released by MGM in 2002.

Boyz in the Hood

Ice Cube’s performance in Boyz in the Hood helped make it a hood classic. His character survives the events of the film and has to live with a lot of regrets that come with survivor’s guilt. Plus, it gave us the bar “I make dough but don’t call me Dough Boy.”

Friday

This movie gave us peak Ice Cube, Nia Long, and Chris Tucker. Cube wrote the movie with DJ Pooh and F. Gary Gray directed. This picture gave us catch phrases like, “and you know this, man” and, “bye, Felica,” to name a few.
