DMX planned on a different direction with his music
According to Rolling Stone, DMX had an unreleased gospel album before he died. The album was supposedly recorded in Arizona during a very troubled time in the rapper’s life. Drug addiction fueled the project that was meant to be part of a double album called Walk With Me Now and You’ll Fly With Me Later. He faced multiple run-ins with police and served jail time.
DMX passed away from a heart attack on April 9, 2021, but was always well-known for his prayers and spiritual invocations on wax and at live shows. His last album, Exodus, was released posthumously. Other rappers including Kanye West and Lecrae have crossed over into making gospel albums, but apparently, the Earl Simmons estate has no intention of releasing X’s project.
