Growing up in Brooklyn’s Marcy projects, the first, and only time, Jay-Z ever shot someone was when he confronted his older brother Eric Carter. Jay-Z shot his, at the time, drug-addicted older brother Eric Carter, in the shoulder for stealing a piece of jewelry. Jay Z was scared right after the incident and thought he was going to jail for the rest of his life.
Jay Z’s brother recovered from the shooting and refused to press any charges, instead he apologized to his brother for stealing his ring and for being a crack addict when Jay Z came to visit him in the hospital. Jay Z wrote about the incident in his memoir “Decoded” and rapped about it on his 1997 record “You Must Love Me.” off his second album ‘In My Lifetime, Vol. 1.’ Jay Z rapped “Saw the devil in your eyes, high off more than weed, confused, I just closed my young eyes and squeezed.”
