Metro Boomin dedicates his new album to late mother Leslie Wayne
Metro Boomin finally reveals the release date for his sophomore studio album, Heroes & Villains. While celebrating his 29th birthday on Friday (September 16), Boomin unveiled a short trailer for the upcoming project on Instagram that displays a release date of November 4.
Boomin dedicates the new album to his late mother Leslie Wayne who was shot and killed by her husband in June in a murder-suicide incident. The husband wasn’t Boomin’s biological dad.
“Heroes & Villains the album. Pre-save link in my bio I do this for Ms. Leslie. 👸🏾💜♾ #HalloweenKingBack,” the multi-platinum producer wrote.
The forthcoming record follows up Boomin’s 2018 solo album Not All Heroes Wear Capes. The album featured the likes of Gucci Mane, Travis Scott, 21 Savage, Swae Lee, Gunna, Young Thug, Offset, Kodak Black, Drake among others.
Lil Durk & Metro Boomin’s joint album is on the way
Lil Durk just dropped the deluxe of his seventh studio album, 7220, and he already has plans for his next project. During a recentinterview with Ebro on Apple Music’s Beats 1 Radio, Smurk confirmed his next big release will be his long-awaited collab album with Metro Boomin, No Auto Durk.
‘’I gotta ask about the album, even though we just get the deluxe,’’ Ebro asked before Durk replied, ‘’As far as next album? You might’ve heard something, no, it’s really with Metro.’’ Ebro continued, ‘’We can expect the next Lil Durk project to be the Metro project that we all heard about?’’
The ‘’Computer Murderers’’ rapper then responded while referencing the 2020 leaking of the project, ‘’Guaranteed. They got it leaked, y’all heard it, it’s on another level.’’
After a fan asked about the joint album on Twitter in March this year, Metro revealed it’s still underway and that he’d talked to Durk about it. “Yes still otw we spoke about it the other day,” he wrote. DJ Akademiks shared this update on his Instagram page and Durk commented, ‘’Nobody Safe.’’
Lil Durk first teased the album in February 2020 when he shared a photo of a billboard with the message: ‘’NO AUTO DURK PRODUCED BY METRO BOOMIN ALBUM COMING SOON.’’
Speaking to Beats 1 the same year, Durk described the upcoming project as ‘’turned up.’’ “Metro don’t make himself highly accessible,” Durk said while explaining about working with Metro. “For you to be different, to have Metro, it’s like bet. You do Metros with the Drakes, Futures, Thugs, 21 Savages, everybody don’t get a Metro by themselves.”
Gunna has been previewing new music from his next studio album Drip Season 4 throughout the year. He has also repeatedly hinted that the highly anticipated record will be arriving soon.
The latest DS4 teaser is from platinum producer Metro Boomin’ who has worked with Gunna for years. On Tuesday (December 14), Metro shared a series of photos of him and Gunna working in the studio. The producer vowed that he made one “of the hardest beats” in his catalog while Wunna “wrote a smash to it same time.”
“Made 1 of the hardest beats I ever made in this pic and bro wrote a smash to it same time @gunna #DS4,” Metro wrote in the caption. Gunna’s fellow YSL rapper Lil Duke, who was present during the studio session, backed Metro’s assertions commenting under the post, “history was literally made right here.”
The Atlanta rapper released the third installment of the DS series in 2018 with features from Hoodrich Pablo Juan, Lil Durk, Nav, Metro Boomin, and Lil Yachty. His last album, Wunna, dropped in 2020 and earned him his first number one album selling 111k album-equivalent units in the first week of release.
Metro Boomin is following up his 2018 release of ‘Not All Heroes Wear Capes’
Three years ago, Metro Boomin dropped his album, Not All Heroes Wear Capes. Having been hard at work with multiple projects outside of his own, he announces Heroes And Villians as the title for his upcoming album.
On Thin Ice caught the St. Louis producer’s title in a thank-you-for-the-support note for DJ Holiday.
“I can’t believe it’s been three years since we released Not All Heroes Wear Capes. Thank you for your continued support. Heroes And Villains Coming Soon!!”
Metro has captured numerous images with him in the studio with other artists, including A$AP Rocky, Westside Gunn, Young Thug, Future, Gunna, and a slew of others.
ASAP Rocky and Metro Boomin are Cooking up some heat
ASAP Rocky unites with Metro Boomin in the studio to work on new music. Metro took to Instagram Tuesday (July 6) to share photos of them in the booth. Metro assures in the caption that whatever they put together is nothing but flames. “FEEL THE FIRE,” Metro wrote while tagging the “Praise the Lord” rapper. Rocky came across the post and left a “BUZZIN” comment.
It’s believable that the link-up is for the process of rendering Rocky’s next album which is tentatively titled All Smiles. In a May interview for his GQ cover story, Rocky disclosed that the upcoming album is 90 percent done. He also revealed that it is “way more mature.” “It’s all about the evolution,” he said. “If I’m still doing the same shit with the same sounds and the same bars and the same visuals from years ago, what’s the point? You got that catalog. You can go revisit that.”
28-year-old 21 Savage has earned some new certifications, according to the RIAA.
8 new songs have now either been certified platinum, more than platinum, or reached gold status. Check out the list of new certifications for Savage below:
Lil Durk took to his IG story to show a picture of Metro Boomin and himself working in the studio
Lil Durk and Metro Boomin have an undeniab chemistry, most recently spotted on Durkio’s “Stay Down” track, featured on his latest album, The Voice.
It was this time last year when Durk and the St. Louis-bred producer teased the release of their collab body of work, No Auto Durk. Durk and Metro have steady been working on music and putting it out, but it hasn’t been for that specific project.
There’s still no word on when this project will arrive, but it’s good to see they’re working. And although there’s a possibility of it being for other reasons, we can still expect something dope between these two.
