Ashanti's career was started long before her Murda Inc days; Bad Boy and Jive Records started her journey
Ashanti almost signed to Bad Boy Records when she was 13, but due to a bad contract, the deal never went through. Instead, Ashanti was signed to a development deal with Bad Boy, after Ashanti sang “Reminisce” by Mary J. Blige. Diddy was impressed her singer.
Although the deal with Bad Boy didn't work out, in 1994, Ashanti inked a deal with Jive Records. This deal didn't work out, because Jive had plans to make Ashanti into a pop singer.
After continuing her path as an artist, she eventually landed in the zone of Murda Inc Records, Ashanti began laying vocals in the background for some of Murda Inc's rappers.
