Babyface also gained a younger audience after a Verzuz against Teddy Riley
R&B singer Babyface recently revealed how his Verzuz match against Teddy Riley helped skyrocket his Instagram popularity. During a chat on Million Dollars Worth of Game podcast on Sunday (August 28), the singer disclosed that his Instagram following rose from 300k to over a million over the night of the Verzuz contest.
“Verzuz was just so powerful I went from 300,000 followers on Instagram to over a million overnight,” he explained. “I remember I went to Walgreens and there was a young girl that said she didn't know my stuff but she was [now] a fan.”
He added that the Verzuz exposed his work to a younger fanbase and prompted him to work with contemporary artists like Ari Lennox, Doechii, and Sevyn Streeter on his next album, Girls Night Out. “I realized I started reaching a younger crowd and I thought I should do music that touches them as well.”
