What is a “Stan”? and what does it mean to be a Stan?
Eminem coined the term “Stan.”
The term “Stan” was popularized by Eminem in 2000 when he released his single “Stan” off his Grammy-winning album The Marshall Mathers LP. In Stan, Eminem rapped from the point-of-view of an obsessive fan which he named “Stan.”
Stan is both a noun and verb. Stan means a stalker fan.
As a noun “Stan” could be used like “Playboi Carti has plenty of stans.” As a verb “Stan” could be used like “I stan Playboi Carti.”
In April 2019, Eminem's definition of ‘Stan' was added to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, meaning “an extremely or excessively enthusiastic and devoted fan”.
The term “Stan” has been used by Eminem, Nicki Minaj, and many K Pop fans.
