Kendrick Lamar released his highly anticipated album in May and the world has been sharing its opinions on the album. West Coast legend Snoop Dogg is the latest to reveal his thoughts on the project and Kendrick in general.
In a recent interview at Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast, Snoop gave K-Dot his flowers as the new leader of West Coast rap. “I get a chance to stand back and watch the youngsters do what they do. I mean, I did my thing with it for 20-something years as far as being the king of the West Coast, gave the crown to Kendrick Lamar — I didn’t give it to him; actually, he took it, but I had to take it off my head and give it to him,” he explained. “And he’s been running wild with it and the music that’s been coming out from the West has been very, very good.”
Snoop went on to compliment Kendrick for taking his time to craft an outstanding album. “You know, when you take your time like that, that’s what you get. You notice he don’t come out every blue moon; he come out when he get ready and he makes sure he’s calculated with his thought process, with his visuals, his sound,” the Bacc on Deathrow rapper said.
“Kendrick is the sort of artist that is a part of the production. You can’t just send him a beat and say, ‘I wanna be on your album.’ He has to be in there with you, telling you how to make the music… changing notes, where it’s stopping, where it’s breaking — he’s a part of the full process,” he added.

Jay Z Talks Writing “Still Dre” for Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg
Jay Z gives insight to one of his most memorable behind the pen moments
Jay Z has been the man behind the penning of multiple hip-hop classics. One of the stand out hits is Dr. Dre’s “Still Dre” from his 1999 album, 2001. In the latest episode of LeBron James’s HBO series The Shop, which aired Friday (May 28), Hov spoke about what it took to write “Still Dre.”Related content: Jay-Z wrote “Still D.R.E.” For Dr. Dre, the lead single off Dr. Dre’s “2001” album
As the rap mogul conversed with LeBron and Maverick Carter, the latter reminisced about Hov writing Bugs Bunny rap for the Space Jam soundtrack. Jay Z then decided to expound on his contribution to the penning of “Still Dre.”
“On that reference track, I’m doing Dre and Snoop’s vocals,” Hov recounts. “The reference track it sounds like them. The Foxy (Brown) reference I’m glad nobody can find that one. But you gotta have somewhat a reverence for them. Obviously, the music they were making with The Chronic and all that … in order for me to really nail the essence of Dre and Snoop had to be like a studied reverence of what they were doing. Even to put myself in their shoes. Cause think about that record. That record comes after Dre leaves Death Row, ‘How? My last album was The Chronic.”
The success “Still Dre” saw helped catapult the 2001 album to high commercial success. The album has been certified 6× platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), making it one of the legendary producer’s best-selling records. The album also put Dre’s label Aftermath Records on the map, opening doors to the follow-ups by Eminem and 50 Cent that were highly successful as well. -

“When he did Verzuz and went to the next level, because he’s see the people still had love for him,” Swizz Beatz explained. “A lot of artists, they don’t really know how the people feel about them. People can see you in the street, but music wise and how is that appreciation. Yeah. You want to take a picture, but do you really mess with me?”
Swizz went on to explain that once X saw his music back to the charts following the VERZUZ, the Ruff Ryders legend was even more encouraged. “All his songs go to number one,” he continued. “He seen everything chart again. I showed him all of it. Then he was just pumped up. He was like the only thing I don’t like about my Verzuz is I wasn’t able to do something new. I want to give all of these people that’s looking at me something new immediately. That’s when that’s the album started.”
Meanwhile, as we anticipate for X’s new album, stream the first single off the album, “Hood Blues,” featuring Griselda, released on Tuesday (May 25).
